Southern Arizona Projects, Engineered Remotely
Tucson is a different market from Phoenix: more owner-driven commercial and tenant improvement work, metal buildings on the industrial edges of town, and a steady stream of residential additions and solar installations. We engineer all of it from one team licensed in Arizona.
You send drawings, photos, and the parcel address. We confirm whether it is in the City of Tucson, unincorporated Pima County, or a neighboring town, and we prepare the sealed package for that department's process.

Tucson Code & Permitting Knowledge
Licensed in Arizona
Palisade Engineering is licensed in Arizona, Nevada, California, Utah, and Iowa, so a Tucson project can share one engineering team with sites in Phoenix or elsewhere in the West.
City of Tucson Planning & Development Services
Tucson splits permits into residential and commercial tracks. Structural commercial permits require plans from a licensed architect or engineer — that is the package we prepare.
Pima County Development Services
Unincorporated Pima County takes building permit submittals electronically through its online portal. We format drawings and calcs for electronic review.
Wind & Soils
Wind typically governs lateral design in southern Arizona, and soils govern much of the foundation work. Design values come from the site's hazard data, the enforced code edition, and the geotechnical report — not a regional rule of thumb.

Tucson Structural Engineering — FAQ
Does the City of Tucson require an engineer for commercial structural work?
Yes. Tucson Planning & Development Services requires structural commercial permits to be prepared by a licensed architect or engineer, and the work must be done by a licensed contractor. Tenant improvements, new commercial buildings, and certificates of occupancy all go through the city's commercial permit process.
My project is outside Tucson city limits. Who reviews it?
Unincorporated parcels are permitted by Pima County Development Services, which takes building permit submittals electronically through its online permit portal. Marana, Oro Valley, and Sahuarita run their own building departments. We confirm the jurisdiction from the address before we prepare the package.
Are you licensed in Arizona?
Yes. Palisade Engineering is licensed in Arizona along with Nevada, California, Utah, and Iowa. Tucson projects run on our remote-engineering process, with sealed drawings and calculations delivered electronically.
What usually governs structural design in Tucson?
Wind is the governing lateral load on most southern Arizona buildings, and soil conditions drive a lot of the foundation design. We take wind, seismic, and soil design values from the site-specific hazard data for the address, the code edition the jurisdiction enforces, and the project geotechnical report.
Can you design the foundation for a metal building near Tucson?
Yes. We work as engineer of record alongside the manufacturer: we set the design criteria the supplier bids against, review the reaction report, and design the footings, thrust resistance, and slab. Concept layouts usually come back in a few days.
