Most commercial structural drawings show stairs and rails generically and defer their engineering to the fabricator. That leaves the fabricator, the misc metals sub, or the general contractor owing the building department a sealed calculation and detail package before anything gets fabricated.
We produce that package — member design, connection design, and the anchorage back into the concrete, steel, wood, or masonry that supports it. Sealed by an engineer licensed in the state where the work is installed, because a vendor's generic calc is not what the plan checker asked for.

Anchorage Into Existing Structure
Post-installed and cast-in anchors into concrete, steel, masonry, or wood, with the supporting element checked for the loads the assembly imposes on it.
Connection & Weld Design
Bolted and welded connection design with the weld sizes, bolt patterns, and base plate dimensions detailed for the fabricator to build from.

What is a misc metals deferred submittal?
The structural drawings show stairs and rails generically and defer their engineering to the fabricator. The fabricator or GC then owes the building department a sealed calc and detail package before fabrication. That package is what we produce.
What do you need to start?
The drawings covering the stair or rail, shop drawings if they exist, the geometry, and what the supporting structure is. Send your preferred fabrication approach and standard sections and we will design around them.
Do you design the anchorage into the existing structure?
Yes, and it is usually the part that matters most. We design the anchors and check the supporting slab, beam, or wall for the loads the assembly imposes on it.
Do you work directly for fabricators and subs?
Frequently — the deferred submittal is normally the fabricator's or contractor's obligation rather than the design team's. We act as engineer of record for the deferred package.
